When is the right time to consider in-home support?

Based in Sydney, JT Care has been providing in-home support for the elderly, people with disabilities, and children for 10 years. We receive many inquiries every day. This time, we'll share the often-overlooked "the best timing to start considering in-home support."

Why it's too late once you can no longer move

Many people tend to think, "I'll think about it when my body can no longer move," but there are significant risks involved in that approach.

Currently, the Australian government's Support at Home package has a waiting period of up to about a year from application to the actual start of services. If you only start taking action when assistance is absolutely necessary, both the person receiving care and their family may find their lives becoming increasingly difficult.

Two steps to start preparing early

1. Start by learning about the system.

Australia's Support at Home program requires time to get used to the terminology and prepare the necessary documents and procedures. First, refer to the following websites to check the service

details and estimated subsidy amounts.

My Aged Care (Australian Government Official Website) This is the place to get an overview of the elderly support program and apply for an assessment.

NDIS (For People with Disabilities: Government Official Website) This is a support program for people with disabilities. The program overview and application procedures are explained in detail.

You can see specific support services provided by JT Care's Japanese staff. Trilogy Care (Our Recommended Company) You can find details of the self-management model and simulate service fees.

It's important for families to discuss what kind of support would give them peace of mind and to share a vision of their future life.

2. Start with "small acts of support"

The most common scenario at our company is starting with household assistance once a week (2-3 hours) .

  • Ensuring safety: By assigning tasks such as shopping and cleaning slippery shower rooms, we prevent falls and other accidents.

  • Mental health care: Regular communication in Japanese helps maintain connections with society and also serves as a way to monitor (check on) one's mental and physical health.

JT Care will support you with the process.

The process of getting Support at Home started may seem complicated, but we will guide you through each step carefully.

Even if you think it might be too early, please feel free to contact us for advice.
